Miele dishwasher not draining? Here is what to check

1. A clogged filter or food trap

Miele dishwashers route water through a multi-stage filter before it drains. Over time, food debris, grease, and hard-water scale clog the filter and reduce drain flow. Pull the filter, rinse it under running water, and clear any debris around the sump. This single step resolves many drain complaints.

2. A blocked or kinked drain hose

A kinked, crushed, or internally clogged drain hose prevents water from leaving the machine. Disconnect the hose and check for blockages — a partially clogged hose shows up as slow draining that worsens over time. Also confirm the drain air gap or disposer connection is clear.

3. A failing drain pump or pump impeller

If the filter is clean and the hose is clear but water still will not pump out, the drain pump motor or its impeller may have failed. A seized impeller (often from a stray object like a shard of glass or a pit) can stall the pump. Listen: a silent machine during the drain cycle points to a dead pump motor.

4. The wash-zone / circulation system

Miele's AutoDos and wash-zone systems add sophistication, and a fault in the circulation pump or level sensor can be misread as a drain problem. Accurate diagnosis needs the manufacturer's diagnostic mode and error-code lookup — which is where certified training matters.

Try the safe, obvious steps first: clean the filter, check the hose for kinks, and clear the disposer or air gap. If water still will not drain, stop before disassembling the sump — incorrect reassembly can leak into the base pan and cause electrical damage.
